Gods and Generals is a American period war drama film written and directed by Ronald F. Maxwell. "Gods and Generals" is a horrible disservice to people trying to understand American history, and to the millions of real people who suffered pain, death, heartache, etc. during our Civil War. I have heard it said that history is written by the victors and that's probably true. I'd say Southern Gods is worth it for Lovecraftian Horror fans just for the first, really great half, which is a stunning ride, an idea brilliant in its conception and execution but lacking in its completion. The setting is cool, unusual, and nicely crafted, the idea is brilliant, the .

Southern Gods is the debut novel of John Hornor Jacobs. I wasn't sure at first how much I was going to like Southern Gods. It started out with a great, atmospheric prologue which should have been a good thing, but prologues always send off warning signals to me that the book is going to need a lot of help hooking me/5.

The Lost Cause of the Confederacy, or simply the Lost Cause, is an American pseudo-historical, negationist ideology that holds that the cause of the Confederacy during the American Civil War was a just and heroic one.

The ideology endorses the supposed virtues of the antebellum South, viewing the war as a struggle primarily to save the Southern way of life, or to defend "states' rights", in.

Southern Gods is the second book I’ve read written by the John Horner Jacobs, the first being Jacobs’ well-written alt-hist fantasy The Incorruptibles. This book has a different setting than Incorruptibles. The setting of that fantasy novel was an alternate Roman Empire that has managed to survive into the 19th century with magic, elves and 4/4().

But the big news for Gods and Generals fans, and Civil War aficionados in general, is the inclusion of a full hour's worth of previously unseen footage, bringing the total running time to a hefty minutes.

Detailed by Maxwell in a new introduction accompanying this release, the additions include the lead-up to the battle of Antietam and the /5(K).

Characteristics of Southern literature include a focus on a common Southern history, the significance of family, a sense of community and one’s role within it, a sense of justice, the region's dominant religion (Christianity) and the burdens/rewards religion often brings, issues of racial tension, land and the promise it brings, a sense of.

Very few blacks willingly aided the Southern cause, and in fact Southern leaders carried out at least one massacre of black Union troops.

Most important, the war was clearly, at base, about slavery. While mountains of scholarship support this conclusion, the case may be most eloquently made in a short and scholarly book, Charles Dew's.

SOUTHERN GODS. Recent World War II veteran Bull Ingram is working as muscle when a Memphis DJ hires him to find Ramblin’ John Hastur.

User Review - Flag as inappropriate A very interesting, thought provoking book about South Indian mythology & religion where I come from, showing the importance of knowing the true creator of heaven and earth, with all its beauty, and the most beautiful of His creation His people through Adam and Eve to commune day and night.

A 'very good' read when we know the triune God said after His Reviews: 2. Gods and Generals is the prequel to the film film focuses on Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, from the outbreak of The American Civil War until his death from friendly fire at Chancellorsville.

It also features the back story for Colonel Joshua Chamberlain, who appeared in Gettysburg and is once again played by Jeff Daniels. The book begins with two sections, "Southern Lands" and "Northern Gods," that explain its foci and approach.

Three key points are made: First, music and dance will be given their proper due, for unlike other studies with rigid social scientific paradigms, this text realizes that "there is an important issue of aesthetic force, a proverbial.

THE GODS OF THE BOOK OF THE DEAD. The following are the principal gods and goddesses mentioned in the pyramid texts and in the later versions of the Book of the Dead: Nu represents the primeval watery mass from which all the gods were evolved, and upon which floats the bark of "millions of years" containing the sun.

This god's chief titles are. The House on the Rock is just one of those places, along with other destinations that pop up along the course of the series. Luckily for fans, it’s also a real place you can visit. Lost Cause authors such as the former Confederate general Jubal Early were instrumental in shaping perceptions of the war, in the north as well as in the south.

Gaining wide currency in the 19th century, the Lost Cause interpretation remains remarkably persistent even today — as Gods and Generals illustrates. Amos’ role in the Bible. Amos is the third of the Minor Prophets, the last twelve books of the Old Testament.

When God had a message for the people, He gave his message through the prophets. These messages came in visions, oracles, dreams, parables, and the like.

Amos’s ministry may have been the earliest of the Minor Prophets’. The novel starts as a man named Shadow Moon is getting ready for his release from prison, after three years inside. Shadow has spent his time practicing coin tricks and reading a copy of Herodotus’s Histories borrowed from his cellmate Low Key days before he is supposed to be allowed to go back to his beloved wife Laura, Shadow finds out that his wife has died in a car accident.

Mark. I enjoyed Rusty Reno’s new book Return of the Strong Gods: Nationalism, Populism and the Future of the week, I will be reviewing Rich Lowry’s new book The Case for Nationalism: How It Made Us Powerful, United, and Free.I expect to be much more critical of Lowry’s book on national conservatism, but I will reserve judgment on it for now.

Thus, Gods and Generals is more Gone With The Wind than Glory, more Jubal Early than "Jubilee," and is truly a 21st century tribute to the "Lost Cause." In the final analysis, the film will certainly captivate many viewers when they see on screen the great battles.

A nearly four-hour historical epic that has so far received middling-to-poor reviews from most sources, this isn’t a movie that’s going to remain in theaters for long.

It will have a second life on television, and a third on DVD, but there’s no substitute for seeing it on the big screen.A WORTHY TRIBUTE.

G ods and Generals by Jeff Shaara is the “prequel” to his late father’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Killer Angels.
